For the 19th year, the Central Jersey Bicycle Club sponsored the Farmlands (former Farmlands Flat) tour as its chief money-raiser, comprising a set of rides from 15 to 100 miles. This year their were 900 attendees. Attendance was down from last year's nearly 1200 due to iffy weather, but there was no rain, and the overcast skies and chilly breezes did not deter a handful of intrepid DOGS teams from participating. And the weather improved as the day progressed.
Four DOGS teams rode the 50 mile ride together, mostly, which wound through semi-rural New Jersey on roads that mostly had light traffic. We stopped at the Chestnut Point rest area at Manasquan Reservoir, mile 31.3, for snacks and a rest break. When we all returned to Brookdale, we sat near a grove of deliciously fragrant blossoming crabapple trees and cheered people as they rode in to complete their rides. That seemed to draw smiles from most of them.
