| Variations on a Theme (Something for Everybody) | |
|---|---|
| Saturday
Jun. 4 | We all know that we ride at different paces and abilities. So,
we got together with Team Bird and decided to jointly sponsor this
ride with various routes for teams with various levels and abilities.
In 10 years of tandeming Linda and George have built up a symphonic
series of variations on a basic theme that includes suburban and
rural roads in North Central Morris County.
Since many DOGS have asked for rides with various distances and terrains so, we're going to offer a wide variety of routes as a DOGS ride. These routes range from a short 12 miles up to a hilly 40+ mile ride. None of the routes are flat, there are always some grades to climb, the longer rides have more of them. Yes, there will be cars and trucks on the roads and you will have to exercise care when riding with them. Keep in mind that Team Wells has ridden all these roads so you can probably do the same routes faster, and stronger, than Team Wells. The plan is to offer all the various routes, and let the teams decide which other teams they want to ride with and plan to do their route-of-choice in somewhere around three hours. The first five miles and the last seven miles will be exactly the same for all routes. Therefore, the faster riders should meet up with the slower riders on the way back to the start/finish point. There will be a sharing picnic following the ride. There will be a shower available for those who want it, but you do need to bring lawn chairs as Team Wells doesn't have many of them. Rain cancels |
| Time | 10:00 |
| Location | Team Wells HQ (if you don't know where that is, e-mail for directions) |

| Mid-Atlantic Tandem EnthusiastS (MATES) (non-DOGS) | |
|---|---|
| Friday
Jun. 17 to Sunday Jun. 19 | Members of the Enthusiastic Group of Riders Exercising Tandem Style
(EGRETS) invite the DOGS to join them in Williamsburg, the Colonial
Capital of Virginia, for the 2005 MATES Williamsburg Tandem Rally,
June 17-19, 2005. Williamsburg's internationally renowned Colonial
Area offers you a trip to the past. You can ride horse-drawn
carriages, stroll the streets of the restored area and mix with
local interpreters dressed in the 18th century costumes, and watch
crafters at work as they demonstrate the colonial trades.
Within easy cycling distance of Williamsburg are Jamestown and Yorktown, the other two points of the acclaimed Historic Triangle. Jamestown is the first permanent English settlement dating from 1607. Yorktown tells the final chapter of the American Revolution where Washington and his troops defeated Cornwallis in battle, ending the Revolutionary War. Although there are numerous diversions, let's not forget the main reason for participating in MATES, the cycling! Routes range from a few miles around the Colonial Area to 75 miles through the counties of Surry and Isle of Wight. We'll also traverse the Colonial Parkway, which runs past scenic woods and waters to connect Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. Rally headquarters will be at the Best Western Patrick Henry Inn & Conference Center (<http://www.patrickhenryinn.com/tracs/locs/lo_info.asp?Mid=1625&Lid=1626>) located 1/2 block <http://groups.hamptonroads.com/pages1.cfm?page_id=13926> from the beginning of the Colonial Williamsburg Historic District. Room cost is $65 for double room per night plus taxes. Free deluxe continental breakfast is included with your accommodations. |

| Whitehouse Farmlands Loop de Loop | |
|---|---|
| Saturday
Jun. 18 | This ride starts and ends in Whitehouse, not far from the Ryland Inn. We will first do a 10 mile loop south of Route 22, going through rural areas and past Solberg Airport. We'll stop here and look around if you want; you may end up signing up for flying lessons at this delightful country airport. We will continue back across 22 and do a 22 mile loop to the north, passing through some of the prettiest farmland areas in Hunterdon and Somerset counties. Most of the ride is rolling and the climbs are moderate. The ride leaders will pace the 32 mile ride no faster than a 15 mph average. Cue sheets will be available at the finish for those riders who wish to do a 30 mile hilly add-on ride (Round Valley Roundabout-we did this ride last May and plan on hosting it again this season as a regular ride). |
| Time | 9:00 AM |
| Location | East Whitehouse Firehouse |
| Distance | 32 mile Whitehouse Farmlands Loop. Optional 30 mile hilly add-on. (Keep in mind that the general store closes at 2 PM.) |
