| Sunday
Feb. 1 | Celebrate the winter months and stay in shape so you feel like a champ
in the springtime.... Come ride with us on our scenic, and, yes...,
a little
hilly tour of Hunterdon & Morris Counties. If the weather is a little
colder than you are used to, just dress for the occasion and our rolling
to hilly ride will keep you warm! If you don't have the winter riding
apparel,... you can always buy your sweetie these items as an early holiday
present.... We did this a few years back and have been riding every winter
season since. We are starting our ride a little later in the morning so
we are riding during the warmest part of the day.
Note: If the roads are not "rideable" we will go for a hike on the Columbia Trail instead. The trail is accessible from the Califon Island Park. |
| Time | 11:00 AM (Optional breakfast at 9:30) |
| Location | Califon Island State Park, Califon |
| Distance | 27 mi. |
| Terrain | Rolling to hilly |
| Refreshments | Optional pancake breakfast at the Califon Firehouse at 9:30 AM.
(Let us know you are coming and we can all sit together.)
After-ride food and socializing will be at the quaint and relaxed atmosphere of Nicola Pizzeria on RT. 513 in Califon, approx. 1/4 mile from ride start location. |

| Offroad in Wharton | |
|---|---|
| Sunday
Feb. 8 | Calling all sand DOGS! Join us on a leader-led ride (no cue sheets)
through single and dual track in the Wharton Tract Pine Barrens of
Burlington County. The pace will be set so everyone stays roughly
together, and so the Jersey Devil doesn't snatch the hindmost. Bring a
picnic lunch or snack and we'll eat midway (if its warm enough to stop!).
There are no stores, houses, water (that we'd drink!) or amenities after
we leave.
This is an off-road ride, and the Pine Barrens terrain is suitable only for wide mountain bike tires. Road tandems don't cut it. (Actually, they cut too deep!) We ride for maybe 2-3 hours, weather and conditions controlling. Dress accordingly. You may get to ride through standing water, so booties and wool socks are a plus. Anyone interested can call that morning to find out weather and conditions. Truly bad weather or recent deep snow on the ground may cancel. |
| Time | 11:00 AM sharp |
| Location | Wharton State Forest, meet at Atsion Ranger Station on Rt 206. Riding within Atsion and Jenkins Neck USGS Quadrangles |
| Distance | TBD. |
| Terrain | Flat, with some moguls. Excessively Sandy. Excessively fun! Off-road! |
| Refreshments | Return to Judy and Malcolm's house for something warm to eat after we have fun slogging through the sand! |
| Host | Judy Allison and Malcolm Boyd |
| Contact | Malcolm Boyd, maboyd@ingr.com or Malcolm or Judy at 856-988-8211. RSVP Requested |
| Directions | We will gather at the Atsion Ranger Station in Wharton State Forest. This is on Rt 206 at Quaker Bridge Road, about 10 miles south of Red Lion Circle (the Rt 206 intersection with Rt 70). After we all arrive, we will caravan into Wharton on the sand roads to the actual starting location. |
| Followup | Indefinitely postponed, due to leader injuries. |
| Offroad on the Delaware - Raritan Canal | |
|---|---|
| Sunday
Feb. 15 | Calling all off roader DOGS! Join us on a leader-led ride (no cue sheets) from Amwell Road (Route 514) in East Millstone to Kingston along the Delaware Rartian Canal Tow Path. Possibly a side trip to Six Mile Run State Park. There are no wrong turns off the path except into water and we don't think the weather will be warm enough for a dip. |
| Time | 10:00 AM |
| Location | Delaware Raritan Canal tow path. We will leave from the parking lot on Amwell Road (Route 514) in East Millstone. The parking lot is between the bridge over the canal and the bridge over the Millstone River. |
| Distance | TBD by weather and the group. We will try for approximately 25 miles if conditions are good. |
| Terrain | Flat, packed dirt with some rough sections. A little on-road riding to get to a cafe for a rest stop. Not suitable for regular road tires. |
| Refreshments | We will have hot soup back at our house afterward for anyone who would like to join us. |

| Short Notice Ride | |

| Sunday
Feb. 29 | The weather outside's been frightful, but Sunday looks so delightful!
I know it's short notice but would anyone be interested in riding on Sunday Feb. 29th? The weather report is partly sunny in the mid 50's. I don't have time to do a cue sheet so we'll make it up as we go along. It will include at least one coffee shop. |
| Time | 11:00 AM |
| Location | Our house in New Brunswick |
| Distance | 25-30 mi., leader-led |
| Host | Ed and Tricia Troike |
| Contact | Ed and Tricia Troike, troike@worldnet.att.net or at 732-247-1394 for directions. |
| Followup | Five teams took advantage of the nice weather and got out for a nice
spin on Sunday February 29, 2004 (leap day). We started in New Brunswick
and wandered our way toward Metuchen. Stopped for coffee. And wandered
back to New Brunswick for some vegetarian chili and red beans and rice.
Who: Mike and Ann K., Malcolm and Judy, Christina and Rich, Barb and Tracy, and Ed and Tricia. We missed our fellow dogs and hope to see them in the future rides. |
