Start the New Year Right
Wednesday
Jan. 1
This will be a leader-led ride through Middlesex and/or Somerset County. The pace will be set so everyone stays together.
Time 11:00 AM
Location Team Troike's house in New Brunswick
Distance The Catch: We have no idea what the weather will be like, so we will set the distance by what the temperature is that morning. We will check the temperature in our backyard at 8:00 am. Whatever the temperature is, we will try to ride that distance, with the ride starting at 11:00 am. Anyone interested can call that morning to find out weather and road conditions, and the mileage. Truly bad weather or bad roads will cancel ride.
Terrain Flat to Rolling
Refreshments Everyone is invited back to the house for hot, homemade soup and good company.

Not as Flat as a ... The Pancake Ride
Sunday
Jan. 5
Flat pancakes will be available if you decide to join us for breakfast at the Califon Firehouse, a short walk from the ride start. For six bucks, you get all you can eat eggs, homemade sausage, toast, orange juice, coffee, and yes, flat PANCAKES. Suggested breakfast time is about 9:30 and the ride starts at 11:00, giving us sufficient time to digest our food so that we can conquer some not so flat as pancake roads in Hunterdon and Morris counties. Join us for the ride even if you don't eat pancakes. Easy to moderate pace on country roads.
Time 11:00 (Breakfast time 9:30)
Location Califon Island Park, Califon
Distance 24 miles
Terrain Rolling to slightly hilly (with a moderate pace)
Refreshments Drinks and snacks after the ride at the Park. Breakfast at the Califon Firehouse.
Host DBLS DOGS: Larry and Brenda Isherwood and Dave Snope and Susan Nicolich

RSVP if you're joining us for breakfast, so we can all eat together.

Directions I-78 to Exit 24-North on 523/517 towards Oldwick. Continue on 517 passing through Oldwick. After several miles, turn left at the next traffic light (white church on right) onto 512 and proceed into the town of Califon (bottom of hill, post office on right). Turn right on Main St., and take the next left on Bank St. Califon Island Park will be on your left.
Firehouse (for breakfast): The Califon Firehouse is on the right on Main St. near where you would make the left onto Bank St. to get to the Park. (You can park at the firehouse or park at the Park and walk to the Firehouse.)
Followup Cancelled due to icy roads.

Tandem Off-Road
Sunday
Jan. 12
This will be a leader-led ride (no cue sheets) through single and dual track in the Wharton Tract Pine Barrens of Burlington County. The pace will be set so everyone stays roughly together, and so the Jersey Devil doesn't get the hindmost. Bring a picnic lunch or snack and we'll eat midway. There are no stores, houses, water (that we'd drink!) or amenities after we leave Atsion. Nada.

This is an off-road ride, and the Pine Barrens terrain is suitable only for 2" or wider mountain bike tires. Road tandems are not suitable.

Time 10:00 AM sharp
Location Atsion Ranger Station, Wharton State Forest
Distance TBD. We ride for maybe 2-3 hours, weather and conditions controlling. Dress accordingly. You may get to ride through standing water, so booties and wool socks are a plus. Anyone interested can call that morning to find out weather and conditions. Truly bad weather or 2"+ of snow on the ground will cancel the ride.
Terrain Flat, with some rollers. Sandy. Off-road!
Host Judy Allison and Malcolm Boyd
Contact Malcolm Boyd, maboyd@ingr.com, or Malcolm or Judy at 856-988-8211. RSVP Required.
Directions We will gather at the Atsion Ranger Station in Wharton State Forest. This is on Rt 206 at Quaker Bridge Road, approx. 12 miles south of Red Lion Circle, (the Rt 206 intersection with Rt 70). After we all arrive, we will caravan into Wharton on the sand roads to the actual starting location.
