Wendy and Jeff’s Long Island Ride
What glorious weather and fun we had! We are so grateful for all of the teams that participated and made this day truly special. (Not to mention that you shlepped out to Long Island for us.)
Seen and heard: “I have never seen a sky this blue” “Beautiful ride!” “How scenic!” “A loo with a view?” “These hamburgers are awesome!” “Paw prints on the balloons?”
8 teams participated: Jeff Winick and Wendy Samuelson (Hosts), Tom Fritz and Beryl Brodsky, Mike and Caren Bianco, Rob and Harriet Voysey, Dave Snope and Susan Nicolich, Mark Cook and Cheryl Prudhomme, Bob and Cindy Power, Percy and Diana Uribe.
We started out in the parking lot of Brookville Nature Park, where we snacked on Susan’s homemade peach muffins and Mike and Caren’s homemade biscotti and babka among other treats. We biked together through the North Shore of Long Island for 40 miles with many scenic vistas of Cold Spring Harbor and Long Island Sound, and through mansion-filled Centre Island. Pit stops were at the Beach of Bayville and Bailey Arboretum to see the birds of prey. No flats and one small technical repair to a pedal.
Back at Wendy and Jeff’s home, Wendy gave a tour of the house while Jeff was BBQing burgers and dogs in the backyard. We all sat around the table in the backyard, laughing and relaxing. Mark broke out the guitar, and we all joined in by playing percussion and singing.
THANK YOU to Tom and Beryl for being our hamburger helpers and set up/break down crew; Mark for providing the entertainment; and Bob and Cindy for helping us with the route and tweaking it to be even better than what we had planned; and to Mike for re-presenting us with a handmade housewarming gift of tandem art (we broke the original piece for our apartment and the new version is even better) and to everyone who made and brought food!
Will we be doing this again next year? Oh Heck, Yeah!!!
