Saturday dawned crisp and clear and there was barely enough of a breeze to lift the flag on the pole. Arriving at Patriot's Park in Jackson were nine D.O.G.S. teams intent on working off some Turkey Day pounds! Attending were Ed and Pat Gifford (the hosts), Brenda and Larry Isherwood, Mark Cook and Cheryl Prudhomme, Neil McPhee and Barbara Flint, Ron and Barbara Anderson, Ed and Tricia Troike, Malcolm Boyd and Judy Allison, Paul and Jane Kimmel, and almost-D.O.G.S. Alan and Leslie Felsen.
The ride started at a brisk pace as warm-up took on a new meaning with the 35 degree starting temperature! Everyone soon settled into their comfortable cadences and the rolling countryside of Jackson and Millstone, painted bright with autumn leaves, delighted the eyes. Being a post-Thanksgiving ride, all thoughts were still on turkey and when rounding a corner all were momentarily excited when a wild turkey was spotted in the road. Upon closer look though, it turned out to be a turkey vulture (still turkey in a way)!
Under the bright sun and with temperatures rising into the "balmy" low 40's the riders returned to Patriot's Park for hot lentil soup and hot apple cider provided by the hosts, Ed and Pat. An array of sweet breads, deviled eggs, and various chips & dips were brought and shared by all and, with the lively camaraderie of the company, contributed to an afternoon picnic that lasted until almost 4 PM! As always, the joy of the ride and the good cheer of the company afterwards contributed to another memorable day with the D.O.G.S. Ed and Pat want to thank everyone who came for making this, their first hosted ride, a success!
