Fall Frolic

Seven DOGS teams gathered to shake off after eight days of rain that kept most of us off the roads (except for some -- ahem! -- crazies who rode through the deluge at Seagull Century last week). Greg and Susan provided route slips for 25- and 40-mile rides, and they somehow managed to score fantastic weather for the event, too. Walt and Claire were delayed for over an hour by an accident on I-78 and missed the group photo but rode the short ride once they arrived.

The routes once again evoked the wonder of cycling in NJ, the most densely populated state, by finding quiet roads through scenic farm country and along singing brooks (and a very full river or two), and bucolic Ravine Lake. A six-plus-mile cruise down Roxiticus Rd. led through Peapack and Gladstone to an unadvertised stop at the Far Hills Fairground. We passed through Liberty Corner (a second time) and Millington on the way back to Berkeley Heights.

Susan and Greg put on a nice end-of-season barbecue as we lounged on their deck. In addition to the typical goodies, Mark brought a "surprise" 43rd birthday cake for Cheryl. (He blew the surprise by Cc-ing Cheryl on email earlier in the week to Greg and Susan about the cake!)

As the sky started to cloud up and the air turned more autumnal, we noticed three deer walking along the other side of the fence between the Adams' house and their neighbor. They seemed entirely too tame.
