The last of the Medford Seagull Training Series rides was completed last Saturday with 6 teams attending: Malcolm Boyd and Judy Allison, Stu and Julie Conway, Larry and Brenda Isherwood, Richard and Pam Toft, Dave Snope and Susan Nicolich, and Walt Willard and Claire Hamanaka. The forecast was calling for showers in the afternoon and the radar looked good, so we took off at 9:15. The 65 mile route went eastward towards Chatsworth, then south to Batsto, and returned north back to Medford area. All went well until around 11 AM when the rain started falling. By that time, we were well into the ride and averaging over 20 mph. Yup, we got soaked; but the temperature was reasonable and the pace was hot, so the ride continued. We stopped briefly at 43 miles for food and drinks, then continued on back to home base. There were 5 teams in the main pace-lining group; the Conways had started earlier. They deserve special recognition for doing the ride by themselves and without the benefit of drafting.

After the ride, we all enjoyed the generous hospitality of Malcolm and Judy who offered us showers, food, and great company.

I think we all felt an additional boost of confidence in our physical conditioning for the up-coming Seagull Century and are looking forward to the Oct. 9 event with great anticipation.
