A Great DOGS Ride

Mark & Cheryl put together a great first club ride today (Saturday, 19 April 2003). They chose good secondary roads with very little traffic. While there were some good climbs, only one put us into Alpine (a.k.a., Granny) Gear, and that happened to be the one that Mark suggested that we all "sprint." Good joke Mark. Getting off at 11:00 AM was good because the day was cool (low 60's). Later in the season we'll need to start a bit earlier to avoid getting too hot.

There were six teams starting with five finishing. (One team had some early season problems and bailed out.) The pace was brisk but not brutal. For all the climbing, there were some awesome long downhill segments that made all the climbing well worthwhile. Scenic and interesting areas, and even for one familiar with the area, some new sights.

Following the ride, our hosts also provided an excellent barbecue and some of the others contributed to the food. As usual -- excellent and a bit more than we should eat. The best news is that I think we convinced Mark & Cheryl to host this same ride again later in the season.

Of course, lots of pictures were taken which will be on the web site (or are there already). Next time this ride shows on the calendar, make an effort to join us -- you won't be disappointed.
