Bucolic Diversity with a Victorian Twist

August 10, 2002
Hosts: Claire Hamanaka and Walt Willard
Where: White Township Recreation Area, White Township
Who (else): Helen and Bob Bird, Marji Brandriss and Dave Kristol, Lily and Mike Fabricante, Brenda and Larry Isherwood, Susan Nicolich and Dave Snope, Linda and George Wells

Walt and Claire hosted a delightful ride through Belvidere and local countryside, including a shady and scenic cruise along the Delaware. And it was all accompanied by sunny, warm, dry weather.

Congratulations to Helen and Bob Bird for passing the DOGS New Member test. In case you've forgotten how this works, the hosts give the new team a special set of directions that contains one wrong turn. The challenge for the new team is to find their way back to the starting point anyway. After the other teams spent a worrisome half hour or so, they were gratified when Helen and Bob rolled into the Recreation Area, only slightly the worse for wear, and extra miles. Well done, Helen and Bob!

After the ride, we all enjoyed fresh fruit and banana bread, courtesy of Claire (and Walt). Oh yes, and brownies. George Wells brought brownies. Chocoholic-rated brownies. Yum! (Recipe: add ½ bag of Nestles Morsels to a box of Pillsbury mix.)

Getting ready to ride

Rest stop at the Deli

Another stop, at Sweet Treats and Eats. Those DOGS are real swingers!

Can you imagine? An ice cream place that doesn't allow DOGS?

Back at the Recreation Area, with Claire's treats.

Well somebody had to eat that last brownie! Hey, it's a dirty job....
